Imposible poder seguirle el paso a Dj Kicks, pensé, y resignado me fui en un paseo melódico lúdico, creativo e inesperado, al compás de los beats de estos ingleses que tienen bailando a medio mundo con “Ready for the floor”. Si, con ustedes Hot Chip.
Como de costumbre me voy al trabajo pensando en la agenda del día; de fondo, mi iPod pone la banda sonora. Desde hace un rato, una canción titulada Over and over me vuela la cabeza, esa mañana prometí buscarla en Soulseek. Nuevamente en casa, y tras un intento vano por ir al gimnasio (…), en la radio suena “And I was a boy from school”, abro mi computador y veo desconcertado que me quedé 2 años atrasado…
Me explico: hace 8 años que los londinenses Alexis Taylor y Joe Goddard formaron Hot Chip y le dieron el formato electropop que los caracteriza, tras COMING ON STRONG (2004) su primer álbum, el 2006 sacaron su segundo disco, THE WARMING, de donde extraje ese par de canciones, las únicas que hasta ese momento sonaban por estas latitudes. Pero, en estos 2 años los 5 integrantes de Hot Chip ya fueron y volvieron, incluso el 2007 fueron invitados para editar su propio set en la serie Dj Kicks (algo así como el paseo de las estrellas para las promesas de la escena electrónica). Ahora, abrieron el 2008 con una 3° placa, MADE IN THE DARK, con la que uno entiende porque la gente de Dj Kicks los ha reclutado.
Me alegra saber que voy a sorprender a la Xime, con quien tengo una histórica competencia melómana, una carrera infantil por conocer grupos y canciones que el otro ignore... Y claro, este grato hallazgo significa, sin duda, una ventaja. MADE IN THE DARK, es un disco pop, un pop maduro, creativo, y por sobretodo de calidad. Se trata de 13 temas, que transitan entre el electro, el indie y el pop, que sorprenden por el ritmo y la textura de un sonido consolidado. El álbum abre con Out at the Pictures que marca la pauta con un ritmo y una sonoridad contagiosa, que electriza los pies con Ready for the floor, One pure thought, Hold On y Don’t Dance. Por otro lado, Touch to much es una suerte de puente al lado más calmo del disco: We’re looking for a lot of love y Made in the dark. Espero, entonces, anotar otro punto a mi favor, jejeje… Xime, así es el dulce sabor de la victoria.
Hacía demasiado tiempo que no entraba a vuestra página, el contenido de la cual me gusta mucho, sobre todo la parte de fotografía y ensayo... Os felicito por la gran calidad de la revista digital.
Hoy me llamó la atención el inicio, con estos dos chavales tocando una pieza de música muy familiar para mí, el "Boig per tu" (Loco por ti) del grupo catalán Sau.
Siendo una revista chilena me pregunté el motivo de vuestra elección.
